The Angola Capital Markets Commission reported that its Board Chair, Elmer Serrão, participated in a conference on venture capital funds, sustainability and innovation in Luanda, where he set out the regulator’s perspective on how venture capital funds can support economic dynamism and sustainability in Angola. The event, hosted at the Catholic University of Angola and convening government bodies, regulators, investors, financial institutions, companies and academia, focused on venture capital as a tool for innovation, entrepreneur financing and sustainable economic development. Serrão discussed international and African experiences, highlighted successful ventures funded through venture capital funds, and pointed to their potential for social and environmental impact and alignment with ESG priorities, alongside opportunities and challenges for Angola and the CMC’s role in developing this market. The CMC framed venture capital funds as mechanisms to channel savings into the real economy, diversify funding sources, support small and medium-sized enterprises and innovative projects, and foster a more dynamic and sustainable capital market aligned with international best practices.
