The Spanish Securities Commission has appointed Javier Hernández López as director of its Studies and Statistics Department. He will take up the role on 1 June, succeeding Eudald Canadell, whom the board thanked for his nine years leading the department. Hernández currently serves as deputy director for financial analysis at the General Secretariat of the Treasury and International Financing in the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Enterprise. In that role he monitored financial markets, worked on financial policy analysis with other Treasury units, and followed financial stability issues in domestic and international forums including AMCESFI, the Financial Stability Board, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and the International Monetary Fund. His earlier posts included adviser in the cabinet of the secretary general of the Treasury and technical counsellor in the subdirectorate for public issuer coordination.
