The Federal Housing Finance Agency announced that William J. Pulte has been sworn in as the agency’s fifth Director for a five-year term following his appointment by President Donald J. Trump. In the role, Pulte will lead the regulator and conservator of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and the regulator of the Federal Home Loan Bank System. The agency, created by the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008, oversees Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the 11 Federal Home Loan Banks, which collectively provide more than USD 8.5 trillion in funding for US mortgage markets and financial institutions; Pulte indicated a focus on the safety and soundness of the regulated entities.
