Peru's Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and Private Pension Funds (SBS) published an update on the savings and credit cooperative sector, reporting that Coopac have added 500,000 new members since end-2024 and announcing that level 2B and 3 Coopac will be granted access to the credit risk registry at end-2025 to support credit risk management. The SBS also highlighted that borrowers exclusive to the cooperative system account for more than 36% of borrowers in the financial system, rural borrowers represent more than 40% of total borrowers, and 66% of cooperative lending is oriented to women borrowers. In 2025, the SBS has visited more than 140 cooperatives and reported that over 1,500 members participated in in-person and virtual training on topics including corporate governance, risk management, asset and liability management, and technological innovation. Access to the credit risk registry for level 2B and 3 Coopac is scheduled to enter into force at end-2025.
