Hong Kong Interbank Clearing Limited has warned about a fraudulent website, fpshkpay.com, that falsely claims to be linked to HKICL and presents itself as a "Buyer Online Protection" service for Faster Payment System transactions. The site claims to offer buyer refunds, unauthorised transaction reporting and online transaction support, but HKICL said it has no affiliation with the website and does not directly provide FPS services to individual members of the public. According to HKICL, the website seeks to obtain users’ personal document numbers, ID photos and phone numbers under the pretext of real-name verification for a cash reward. It also asks for bank name, account number and account holder name to top up and withdraw funds through a virtual wallet via FPS, and directs users to a fraudster posing as customer service personnel. HKICL said its genuine websites are hkicl.com.hk and fps.hkicl.com.hk, and urged the public to remain vigilant, verify suspicious communications and report suspected fraud to the Police.
