The Bank of Italy announced a comprehensive reorganization and strengthening of the institutional functions performed by its branches, changing how responsibilities for supervised intermediaries are allocated from 23 February. The revised allocation covers prudential supervision, anti-money laundering supervision, and the handling of complaints. Under the new model, supervisory responsibilities will be assigned either to the branches or to Head Office departments on a case-by-case basis, with specific operational tasks allocated to the branches; supervised intermediaries can consult the updated responsibility map on the Bank of Italy’s Banking and Financial Supervision webpages. Further updates on branch responsibilities, including those relating to customer protection supervision, will be communicated in due course.
