HM Treasury and the US Department of the Treasury have established a Transatlantic Taskforce for Markets of the Future to develop recommendations for closer UK-US collaboration on capital markets, digital assets and other innovative financial activities. The Taskforce will report to both finance ministries through the UK-US Financial Regulatory Working Group. The remit includes identifying short-to-medium term options for cooperation on digital assets while legislation and regulatory regimes are still developing, alongside longer-term opportunities for wholesale digital markets innovation. It will also examine ways to improve links between UK and US capital markets, focusing on reducing burdens for firms raising capital cross-border, with recommendations to be developed in close collaboration with industry partners and leading experts. Chaired by officials from HM Treasury and the US Department of the Treasury and involving relevant UK and US regulators as appropriate, the Taskforce is expected to report within 180 days.
