The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) ordered the cessation of unauthorised insurance intermediation carried out via three websites and instructed providers operating in Italy to block access. Blocking activities are underway and IVASS noted that, for technical reasons, effective blocking may take a few days. The websites covered are claritybrokers.it, agenziagiustiniani.it (including the www domain) and vittoriapietrasanta.it (including the www domain), with the cease-and-desist orders published in IVASS’s “Defend ourselves from scams” section. IVASS reported that the total number of websites subject to cease-and-desist orders since it began using its blocking powers in November 2023 has risen to 250, and urged consumers to exercise caution with insurance offers made via the internet, phone or instant messaging, particularly short-term motor third-party liability policies, and to verify that insurers and intermediaries are duly authorised by consulting IVASS registers and lists.
