The Financial System Supervisory Authority of Bolivia, with support from the Inter-American Development Bank, convened financial sector, industry and academic representatives to discuss the shift toward more preventive, evidence-based market conduct supervision. The dialogue examined international practices that could strengthen the Financial Consumer Protection Ombudsman and improve transparency and fair treatment across the financial system. Participants emphasized that consumer protection should apply throughout the product lifecycle, from design and marketing to customer information, decision-making conditions and complaint resolution. The discussion also identified safe product design, corporate governance and the ethical use of artificial intelligence as areas for improving market conduct and anticipating risks to financial institutions and consumers.
