The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) announced that the Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions has become a signatory to the IAIS Multilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MMoU), joining the association’s international framework for supervisory cooperation and information exchange. The MMoU sets common compliance and confidentiality arrangements designed to support open cooperation between insurance supervisors, including the exchange of relevant information and assistance in supervising cross-border insurance operations. Admission requires applicants to undergo a rigorous assessment of their professional secrecy regime by an independent team of IAIS members; IAIS also noted that MMoU signatories now represent around three-quarters of global gross written premiums, compared with the first admission in June 2009.
