The Bank for International Settlements Innovation Hub published a report on Project Rio, a cloud-based live monitoring tool that connects to multiple foreign exchange trading venues and analyses activity in real time to help central banks detect market dislocations, liquidity issues and spillovers in fast-paced electronic markets. Rio uses data streaming technology as a real-time digital assembly line and presents developments through an intuitive, interactive dashboard designed with a group of central bankers. The underlying technologies are open source and modular, intended to allow new markets, metrics and visuals to be added quickly, including potential use cases beyond financial markets.
