The Insurance Supervision Institute of Mozambique published an account of the Mozambique Insurers Association’s first Annual Insurance Conference, held in Maputo under the theme of insurance industry solutions to Mozambique’s economic and social challenges. At the opening, the Vice-Minister of Economy and Finance challenged the sector to accelerate growth in life insurance, pensions and microinsurance, alongside the market’s reported expansion in operators and gross written premiums. The Vice-Minister called on insurers to work with the Government to improve consumer education, develop inclusive insurance and modernise information systems, and urged the association to play an active role in insurance-focused financial education campaigns as part of the country’s financial inclusion strategy. The Chair of the Insurance Supervision Institute of Mozambique positioned the conference, supported by national and international experts, as a platform to strengthen continuous development of the insurance sector for firms, professionals and consumers, while the association’s president highlighted the need to raise insurance penetration, literacy and public trust. Discussion topics included insurance legal regime trends, local content in oil and gas projects, severe climate events, the economic acceleration programme, financial inclusion and road accidents.
