The Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) has unveiled a new digital portal, integrated into the ASIC Regulatory Portal, for firms applying for an Australian financial services (AFS) licence. The portal is intended to streamline how AFS licensees lodge applications and make notifications to ASIC. From 5 May 2025, applicants can apply for an AFS licence through the Regulatory Portal, with additional transactions to vary, cancel and maintain an AFS licence to be added in the coming months. Until those functions are available, ASIC will keep the existing eLicensing system operational and applicants can choose to lodge via either channel. ASIC said the information it seeks from applicants is unchanged, but the application interface and question flow have been redesigned, including automatic pre-filling of details, removal of the need to separately upload additional documentation, and more granular selection of financial products and services. Licensing guidance, including the consolidated AFS Licensing Kit and ASIC licensing webpages, will be updated once all portal functions are rolled out.
