The People’s Bank of China published second-quarter lending data showing that outstanding RMB loans reached CNY 282.63 trillion, up 5.2% from a year earlier, after increasing by CNY 10.72 trillion in the first half of 2026. Lending growth remained concentrated in enterprises, green projects, inclusive finance and technology companies, while real estate and household borrowing contracted. Outstanding domestic and foreign currency enterprise loans rose 8.2% to CNY 197.47 trillion, including 10.8% growth in operating loans. Green loans increased 14.5% to CNY 48.63 trillion, while inclusive loans to micro and small businesses rose 8.3% to CNY 38.52 trillion. Loans to technology-focused small and medium-sized enterprises grew 20.1%, and lending to high-tech enterprises rose 14.6%. By contrast, RMB real estate loans fell 4.9% to CNY 50.74 trillion, including declines of 8.5% in property development loans and 3.8% in individual housing loans. Total household loans decreased 1.3%, although household operating loans grew 2.8%.
