The Bank of the Lao PDR reported that it co-chaired, for the first time, the 12th Advisory Committee Meeting of the International Monetary Fund's Capacity Development Office in Thailand, or IMF CDOT, in Luang Prabang. The meeting reviewed progress in technical assistance and capacity development work aimed at strengthening macroeconomic management in participating countries, with representatives from the finance ministries and central banks of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam joining development partners and IMF staff. As a direct recipient of IMF CDOT support, the central bank presented work on the links between the macroeconomy, monetary policy, liquidity management and monetary policy implementation. Officials from its Monetary Policy Department and Banking Operations Department reported concrete results and lessons from implementation, which are being used to reform Laos's macroeconomic forecasting framework and the operational framework for implementing monetary policy.
