The Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission has installed Atty. Francis Ed Lim as its new chairperson, succeeding outgoing chairperson Emilio B. Aquino following the end of Aquino’s seven-year term. Lim was named by President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. on June 3 and assumed office on June 10. Lim set out priorities focused on faster, law-aligned processing of pending applications and further simplification and streamlining of regulatory requirements, with an emphasis on justifying information and process demands placed on the public. He also pointed to planned coordination with the Philippine Stock Exchange, Philippine Dealing and Exchange Corp., non-governmental organizations, and the three branches of government to pursue reforms aimed at developing deeper and more accessible capital markets. Lim’s background includes prior service as president and chief executive officer of the Philippine Stock Exchange (2004–2010) and work as a senior legal counsel at ACCRA Law.
