The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) ordered the cessation of insurance intermediation carried out via six websites found to be offering insurance services without authorisation and has initiated measures for Italian-based providers to block access to the sites. The sites subject to the order are www.berkshirehathawayeuropeaninsurancedac.com, rca.assicurpoint.it, www.piottisoluzioni.it and piottisoluzioni.it, www.vittoriaassicurazionipratoest.it and vittoriaassicurazionipratoest.it, www.agenti.vittoriaassicurazionipratoest.it and agenti.vittoriaassicurazionipratoest.it, and preventivi.bona-asscura.com. Blocking is in progress and may take a few days for technical reasons. The orders are published in the IVASS website section “Defend ourselves from scams”, and the total number of sites targeted by IVASS cessation orders since it began exercising its blocking power in November 2023 has risen to 305. IVASS also reiterated guidance for consumers to exercise caution with insurance offers received via the internet, phone or instant messaging, particularly for temporary motor third-party liability policies, and to verify that quotes and contracts relate to duly authorised insurers and intermediaries by consulting IVASS registers and lists, including the Single Register of Insurance Intermediaries and the lists of supervised insurers’ websites.
