The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has issued a public alert highlighting bank press releases on fraudulent websites, fake internet banking login screens, phishing emails and other scams that have been reported to it. The alert covers The Bank of East Asia, Limited, Shanghai Commercial Bank Limited, Chong Hing Bank Limited, Fubon Bank (Hong Kong) Limited, Bank of Communications (Hong Kong) Limited and DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Limited, with hyperlinks to the banks’ press releases available on the HKMA website. The HKMA reminded customers that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing them to bank websites to conduct transactions, and will not request sensitive information such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords by phone, email or SMS. Anyone who has provided personal information or carried out financial transactions in response to these scams is advised to contact the relevant bank using the information in the corresponding bank press release and report the matter to the Crime Wing Information Centre of the Hong Kong Police Force.

It reiterated that banks do not send embedded hyperlinks for transactions or request sensitive information such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords by phone, email or SMS, and advised affected individuals to contact their bank and report cases to the Hong Kong Police Force.
