The Central Bank of Taiwan published its latest foreign exchange reserves data, reporting reserves of USD 576.68 billion at the end of December 2024, a decrease of USD 1.30 billion from the end of the previous month. The change was attributed to returns from foreign exchange reserves management, exchange rate movements of other reserve currencies against the US dollar, and the central bank’s intervention to smooth volatile capital flows to maintain an orderly foreign exchange market. The market value of securities investment and New Taiwan dollar deposits held by foreign portfolio investors reached USD 836.9 billion, equivalent to 145% of foreign exchange reserves.
