The National Bank of Romania has started disseminating the “Personal remittances” indicator in its interactive database under the balance of payments and international investment position section, providing quarterly data for the total and for the 10 main partner countries starting from reference year 2013. “Personal remittances” comprises workers’ transfers and net compensation of employees, each split into receipts and payments. Workers’ transfers cover money sent to Romania by Romanians working abroad for more than one year and money sent abroad by foreign persons working in Romania for more than one year. Net compensation of employees covers estimated wages of Romanians working abroad for less than one year and foreign employees working in Romania for less than one year, net of estimated social contributions, wage taxes and estimated purchases of goods and services in the host economy. The released series spans 2013 to Q2 2025 and is accompanied by charts showing the quarterly evolution and the annual geographic structure of inbound personal remittances.
