Bank Negara Malaysia has announced the full rollout of the Qualified Resident Investor (QRI) Programme for eligible resident corporates, effective 1 July 2025. The programme provides registered corporates with flexibility to manage future direct investments abroad without requiring prior approval from Bank Negara Malaysia, subject to repatriating and converting eligible foreign currency funds into ringgit upon successful registration. The rollout follows a pilot introduced in April 2024, which has generated cumulative inflows exceeding USD 1 billion into the domestic financial market. Eligible participants include resident corporates that repatriate and convert foreign currency proceeds from overseas investments and demonstrate good corporate governance and compliance with Bank Negara Malaysia’s foreign exchange policy. The QRI Programme will be available until 30 June 2028.
