The National Bank of Moldova said Gov. Anca Dragu held bilateral talks in Vienna with Mariana Kuhnel, executive director of Austria's Financial Market Authority, focused on strengthening cooperation between the two authorities. The discussions centered on banking supervision, the insurance sector and the exchange of experience as Moldova aligns its financial regulation and supervisory practices with European Union rules and standards. A main topic was insurance supervision, as Moldova updates its national framework and aligns its legislation with the EU acquis, including the principles of Solvency II. The meeting also covered Moldova's priorities for stronger prudential supervision, developments in the banking sector, payment infrastructure initiatives including integration into the Single Euro Payments Area and the development of the MIA instant payment system, and priorities linked to implementation of the Growth Plan for the Republic of Moldova. The bank also highlighted that insurers with majority Austrian ownership account for more than half of the Moldovan insurance sector's assets.
