The Austria Financial Market Authority (FMA) announced that its Executive Board member Mariana Kühnel will represent Austria on the Board of Supervisors of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) with immediate effect, replacing Peter Braumüller. Braumüller, head of the FMA’s insurance supervision division, has been a member of EIOPA’s Board of Supervisors since the authority’s establishment in 2011 and is expected to retire during 2026. Kühnel highlighted supervisory simplification and efficiency as current priorities, including focusing reporting obligations on essentials, avoiding duplicate reporting, and using data more intelligently to reduce burden on firms while supporting modern risk-based supervision. The FMA also noted its wider engagement in the European System of Financial Supervision, including Kühnel’s membership of the European Securities and Markets Authority’s Board of Supervisors and FMA Executive Board member Helmut Ettl’s role as Deputy Chair of the European Banking Authority.
