The Brazilian Superintendence of Private Insurance (SUSEP) issued guidance after receiving reports of consumers facing unrecognised charges in bank accounts or payroll slips linked to insurance, supplementary pension and financial assistance products. It warned that debits made without a consumer’s express consent are prohibited and urged consumers to monitor account statements and identify entries they did not agree to. Where a suspicious charge or unrecognised deduction is found, consumers should first contact the insurer or pension entity responsible through official service channels to verify the origin of the contract. If the issue is not resolved adequately or there is no response within the legal timeframe under Decree 11,034/2022 (SAC Decree), consumers should file a complaint via Consumidor.gov.br, including the company name and a description of the incident. SUSEP noted that complaints support both individual dispute resolution and its sector supervision by helping identify potentially non-compliant practices, and it will take appropriate measures when irregularities are identified.
