The Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority (FI) has launched Innovationskompassen, a new method to identify where firms face uncertainty when applying rules or supervisory processes in innovation and business development, and to develop more targeted guidance. The initiative is framed as a structured dialogue tool and does not replace authorisation procedures, create exemptions from existing rules, or result in binding decisions. Under the process, firms submit proposals for areas where guidance is needed, after which FI selects one area for a time-limited project and convenes a reference group of participating firms. The dialogue is intended to map the questions driving uncertainty, the obstacles firms face and what type of guidance would be most useful, with FI publishing conclusions and issuing guidance in a format suited to the topic. The first project cycle has started, with proposals due by 31 January 2026 and reference group work expected to begin in April 2026.
