Greece's Ministry of National Economy and Finance announced that Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis is in Washington, DC to participate in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Annual Meetings, framed around IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva’s theme “Opportunities in a period of change”. The programme includes IMF governance sessions, public events on the digital economy and artificial intelligence, discussions with European counterparts and the IMF on Europe’s role in a changing multilateral system, and a climate-focused ministerial meeting. During the visit, Pierrakakis is scheduled to attend the IMF Board of Governors plenary and to act as a keynote speaker at the IMF-organised New Economy Forum public discussion on “Strategies for the Future: Digitisation of the Economy and Artificial Intelligence”. He will also speak at a working dinner of European finance ministers with Georgieva and take part in the 14th Ministerial Meeting of the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action, focused on how economic policy can strengthen resilience to the climate crisis. The ministry also flagged bilateral meetings with senior IMF officials, banking and investment group leaders, foreign officials and peers, alongside events on international economic developments and Greece’s economic trajectory, with the minister expected to emphasise Greece’s resilience and investment attractiveness amid international uncertainty.
