Thailand’s Office of Insurance Commission outlined proposals to strengthen cooperation between Thai and Russian insurers during the ninth Thailand-Russia Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation in Moscow. The proposals would use Thailand’s insurance and reinsurance capacity to improve services for about 1.9 million Russian tourists visiting Thailand annually and to support bilateral trade. Potential measures include Thai insurers acting as claims settlement agents to coordinate with hospitals and manage local claims, as well as developing suitable coverage for Russian visitors and residents. The regulator also proposed studying reinsurance support for Russian insurers and coverage for goods shipped from Russia to Thailand. Executives from Thai non-life insurers representing more than 50% of the domestic market held related discussions with SOGAZ Insurance Group on insurance services and claims management, and with R-Pharm on connecting pharmaceutical and medical innovation with Thailand’s health insurance system.
