The Hong Kong Monetary Authority issued a public alert on reported scams involving fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens associated with The Bank of East Asia, Shanghai Commercial Bank, Chong Hing Bank and OCBC Bank (Hong Kong). It directed the public to the relevant bank press releases via hyperlinks on the HKMA website. The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not ask for sensitive information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS. Anyone who has provided personal information or conducted transactions in response to the scams was advised to contact the relevant bank using the details in the corresponding press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre.
