The Central Bank of Montenegro organised a workshop for banking-sector representatives on various aspects of instant payments as part of preparations to introduce a TIPS Clone system. The platform will be developed based on the European Target Instant Payment Settlement (TIPS) system model and is intended to enable citizens and businesses to send and receive real-time payments 24/7/365 from July 2026. The workshop featured a presentation by Kjeld Herreman, an international expert in payment systems and payment transactions, and was attended by more than 50 representatives of Montenegrin banks together with members of the central bank’s project team. The central bank positioned the initiative within its broader programme to modernise the financial sector and support Montenegro’s integration into the European financial ecosystem in cooperation with the banking sector.
