The Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre has begun issuing infringement notices to businesses in the real estate, accounting and jewellery sectors that it believes failed to enroll within 28 days of providing a designated service. The notices impose penalties of AUD 21,840 on corporate entities and AUD 4,368 on individuals, with amounts able to accrue daily. The action follows information requests sent in August to apparently unenrolled businesses. About 90% of the initial group have since enrolled or attempted to enroll, while enforcement is targeting those that remain noncompliant. The AML/CTF regime expanded on July 1, 2026, to cover sectors including real estate, legal and accounting services, conveyancing, trust and company services, and dealers in precious stones and metals. Covered businesses must enroll and take steps to understand their obligations, assess financial crime risks and establish appropriate controls.
