The Taiwan Financial Supervisory Commission published an update on domestic banks’ lending to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), reporting outstanding SME loans of NT$10,362 billion at end-January 2025, up NT$23.9 billion from end-December 2024. SME loans accounted for 64.09% of total loans to all enterprises and 67.86% of total loans to private enterprises, down 0.6 and 0.66 percentage points respectively from end-December 2024. The average non-performing loan ratio on SME loans was 0.26% in January 2025, an increase of 0.03 percentage points over end-December 2024. The FSC reiterated its encouragement for domestic banks to expand SME lending while maintaining risk controls and management.

The average non-performing loan ratio for SME loans rose to 0.26%, up 0.03 percentage points, with the FSC urging banks to expand SME lending while maintaining risk controls.
