The National Bank of Moldova published an adoption update on its MIA Instant Payments system, marking two years of person-to-business payments and one year of person-to-government payments. The system has registered more than 985,000 unique users and processed over 31 million transactions worth about MDL 28.5 billion since launch. Monthly activity stands at around 2 million transactions with a value of nearly MDL 2 billion. More than 11,000 businesses have integrated MIA across over 23,000 acceptance points. Person-to-business payments exceeded 3.8 million transactions worth about MDL 2 billion over two years, with funds available within 10 seconds. In the first year of person-to-government functionality, users made more than 113,000 payments worth over MDL 64 million for taxes, fines and public services through the EVO and MPay government platforms. The system will continue to add functionality and expand instant-payment use cases, including through the implementation of MIA business-to-business transfers.
