The Namibia Securities Exchange (NSX), in partnership with the Bank of Namibia and under the oversight of the Namibia Financial Institutions Supervisory Authority (NAMFISA), announced that Central Securities Depository Limited has gone live in Namibia, establishing a central securities depository (CSD) for the market. The CSD shifts securities registration and settlement from paper-based processes to a fully electronic, integrated system. It will hold securities in electronic form, facilitate electronic clearing, settlement and registration, and manage corporate action events. The launch follows regulatory reforms that enabled the establishment of a CSD and the issuance of a licence on 8 March 2024, after which the NSX, the Bank of Namibia and financial market participants worked on the system’s design and implementation.
