The Reserve Bank of New Zealand announced that Angus McGregor will become Assistant Governor for Financial Stability, formalising the leadership role he has held on an acting basis since March 2025. The move places a bank insider who joined in 2022 into one of the central bank’s most senior financial stability posts. In outlining the appointment, Governor Anna Breman cited McGregor’s knowledge of New Zealand’s financial sector, supervisory experience and leadership during a period of change. The bank also pointed to his domestic and international sector relationships and his enforcement work, including successful outcomes in recent court action. McGregor will formally commence in the role later this month. Recruitment for his substantive position will begin shortly.
