The Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of Finance's Customs and Excise Division announced that it intercepted a shipment containing marijuana and a firearm during an intelligence-led operation at a Customs Bonded Area in Port of Spain. The seizure involved 11 packages of a green plant-like substance resembling marijuana with an estimated street value of TTD 1.4 million, along with a separate package containing a black metallic object resembling a firearm concealed in a washer and dryer. The cargo was consigned to a retired Customs and Excise Guard. Officers from the Customs Canine Enforcement Unit and Preventive Branch secured and seized the items, with assistance from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service's Firearms Trafficking Interdiction Unit and Special Investigations Unit. One individual was arrested and formally charged in connection with the seizure. The accused is due to appear before a Master of the High Court on June 23, 2026 to answer offences under the Customs Act Chapter 78:01.
