The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced that the joint U.S.-Ukrainian board of the U.S.-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund approved three investments targeting critical minerals development, community energy infrastructure and power grid resilience. The approvals expand the fund’s capital deployment following its first investment in March. The fund will establish a joint platform with BGV Group Management to invest in early stage mining projects, initially focusing on rare earths, uranium, beryllium and zirconium deposits. It will also make an equity investment in community scale combined heat and power hubs intended to restore heat and electricity damaged by the war. A separate debt investment will finance DTEK’s operational 200 megawatt and 400 megawatt-hour battery storage system across six sites, which can supply electricity equivalent to about 600,000 homes for two hours and support grid stability and restoration.
