The Egypt Financial Regulatory Authority has established a joint coordination committee with the Egyptian Exchange and the Egyptian Tax Authority to address the tax treatment of capital market activities. The committee is tasked with studying the tax effects of applying certain provisions of the Capital Market Law, preparing recommendations on the appropriate tax treatment, issuing joint guidance on tax accounting mechanisms and controls, and defining how taxes due on securities sales and investment fund activity should be collected and remitted. The committee will also review all previously issued tax treatment instructions and update them to reflect current laws and market developments. Its work includes following the planned systems linkage between the Tax Authority and the Egyptian Exchange, preparing guidance for listed and unlisted securities activity and investment funds, and setting a clear classification for all funds. In addition, it will draft a cooperation protocol covering staff training and technical exchange across the three bodies. The committee is chaired by Reda Abdel Moaty, senior adviser to the Financial Regulatory Authority, and includes representatives from the three institutions.
