The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission is coordinating with nonlife insurers to accelerate assistance, damage assessments and claims handling following flooding across the country. Policyholders are advised to verify flood coverage, document damage, notify insurers promptly and prepare supporting claims documents. Type 1 motor insurance covers flood damage, while holders of Type 2+ and Type 3+ motor policies and residential fire policies should confirm whether flood or natural disaster coverage applies. The regulator has also outlined five damage levels for flooded vehicles, ranging from water reaching the floor carpet, with estimated repairs of THB 8,000 to THB 10,000, to full submersion. Insurers will assess fully submerged vehicles under policy terms and pay compensation where damage qualifies as a total loss. At a meeting scheduled for Sept. 28, 2026, the commission and nonlife insurers will discuss identifying affected policies through the Insurance Bureau System, arranging towing and vehicle storage, and setting claims assessment and payment timeframes. They will also consider premium payment relief for affected policyholders and extensions for impacted individual insurance agents and brokers to renew their licenses.
