The Bank of Italy announced it has received the Central Banking Award 2025 in the area of risk management, recognising its development of new financial risk assessment methodologies and improvements to its analysis of firm creditworthiness through the incorporation of sustainability criteria. The recognition forms part of the Central Banking Awards programme, now in its 12th year, which highlights central bank performance amid inflationary pressures and rapid technological change. Governor Fabio Panetta framed the award as an endorsement of the Bank of Italy’s prudent, forward-looking risk management and as reflecting its role in supporting the financial system during crises when other market participants engage in widespread de-risking.
