The National Bank of Romania published provisional monetary indicators showing broad money M3 reached RON 813.337 billion at the end of August 2026, up 0.5% from July and 8.3% from a year earlier. In real terms, M3 increased 0.3% month over month and 2.0% year over year. Credit to the non-government sector rose 0.9% on the month and 8.2% annually to RON 476.692 billion, equivalent to annual real growth of 1.9%. RON-denominated non-government credit grew 4.3% year over year, but fell 1.8% in real terms, while foreign currency credit increased 17.0% when expressed in RON and 12.9% when expressed in EUR. Deposits from resident non-government clients reached RON 688.280 billion, rising 0.5% from July and 8.8% annually. Credit to the government sector increased 1.3% on the month and 13.2% year over year to RON 289.809 billion.
