The National Bank of Moldova won a Silver Award in the Tech PR & Communication of Innovation category at the Romanian PR Award 2025 for its “A thousand reasons to try MIA” campaign promoting the MIA instant payments system. The recognition highlights the bank’s communication work around an infrastructure project positioned as a major modernization of Moldova’s payments landscape. MIA, developed by the National Bank of Moldova, enables immediate 24/7 transfers between any bank accounts in the country, including using the beneficiary’s phone number. The system launched for individuals on 12 March 2024 and has reached 800,000 retail users, with the bank reporting that one in two mobile banking users uses MIA. Business functionality went live on 31 July 2024 and now supports more than 11,000 acceptance points, with payments to businesses exceeding MDL 100 million per month; public service payments became available on 31 July 2025 via the EVO and MPay online platforms. The 2025 award follows a Silver Award received in 2024 for the National Bank of Moldova’s “Financial education for all” campaign, with the Romanian PR Award evaluated by an international jury representing 22 countries.
