The Central Bank of Taiwan reported that annual growth in the M1B and M2 monetary aggregates slowed to 6.65% and 6.79%, respectively, in August 2026. M2 growth eased mainly because foreign currency deposits and passbook savings deposits grew more slowly. On a monthly basis, M1B increased 0.72% and M2 rose 0.65%. Total outstanding loans and investments of monetary financial institutions increased 0.93% during August, while annual growth accelerated to 9.43% from 9.08% in July. The increase primarily reflected stronger bank claims on the private sector and government enterprises. Including life insurers’ loans and investments, as well as loans reclassified or written off by monetary financial institutions, annual growth was 7.69%, up from 7.40%.
