The Jordan Securities Commission participated in the Amman Stock Exchange’s “Ringing the Bell for Gender Equality” event, part of a global initiative involving more than 110 stock exchanges, to highlight the role of financial markets and the private sector in promoting gender equality and women’s economic empowerment. Organised in collaboration with UN Women, the United Nations Global Compact, the International Finance Corporation and the Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative, the event featured the Commission’s chairman, Emad Abu Haltam, and members of its Board of Commissioners. Abu Haltam pointed to women holding senior leadership roles across Jordan’s capital market institutions, including a Board of Commissioners member with executive responsibilities at the Commission and the chief executive of the Securities Depository Center. He also indicated the Commission is working on launching environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) guidelines, with the social dimension covering diversity considerations including diversity in board membership.
