The Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) published an update on its cooperation with the Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC) to combat fraudulent investment schemes through financial literacy and investor education, including their first SEC CAN! Investor Protection and Scam Awareness Hybrid Webinar held on August 20. The session combined an in-person event at the PPSC Head Office in Quezon City with a Webex audience, drawing more than 200 students, faculty and PPSC personnel on site. The online livestream, carried on the Facebook pages of the PPSC, SEC and SEC CAN! network partners including the Department of Education, recorded a total reach of more than 21,400; the programme focused on helping participants spot red flags and identify, avoid and report investment fraud, with the SEC Enforcement and Investor Protection Department covering common schemes. The joint activity forms part of a Memorandum of Agreement signed in June under the SEC Communication, Advocacy, and Network (SEC CAN!) initiative. The SEC also positioned its Anti-Scam and Illegal Taking of Investments Group (ASTIG) as the mechanism within SEC CAN! for converting partnerships into training, information-sharing and support to enforcement agencies and community leaders responding to fraudulent investment activity.
