The Insurance Supervision Institute of Mozambique appointed Ester dos Santos José as President of its Board of Directors on 15 March, replacing Maria Otília Monjane Santos as part of an institutional reform. At the swearing-in, the Prime Minister tasked the new chair with promoting growth in life insurance and microinsurance, updating insurance-sector legislation to reflect current market risks including climate change-related risks, and modernising information and communications systems as well as anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing controls. The agenda also included stepping up insurance financial literacy campaigns, strengthening ongoing dialogue with sector stakeholders, and ensuring sound management of the institute’s human, financial and asset resources. Dos Santos José flagged an intention to adopt an electronic platform, the Banking Supervision Application used by the Bank of Mozambique, to support better organisation and dissemination of information and more reliable statistics for insurance supervision.
