The South Korea Financial Services Commission’s Korea Financial Intelligence Unit announced that Commissioner Lee Hyung Ju will represent Korea at the Financial Action Task Force Steering Committee meeting on Oct. 25, ahead of the FATF plenary on Oct. 28-30. The committee shapes key plenary issues and FATF’s work direction, giving Korea a role in discussions and decisions on international standards for anti-money laundering, counterterrorist financing and counterproliferation financing. The FIU plans to share policies, emerging illicit finance trends and international practices obtained through FATF activities with customs, tax and investigative authorities to strengthen domestic coordination. The participation supports Korea’s broader national financial crime strategy and preparations for its fifth FATF mutual evaluation, which is scheduled to begin in March 2028.
