The Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) issued a public warning urging the public to exercise caution when dealing with individuals falsely claiming to represent Cuthman Capital (Pty) Ltd and its chief operating officer, following a complaint from Ms Thandi Wille after impersonators used Telegram accounts to pose as company executives. The impersonators used Telegram usernames including @leadership_THANDI_WILLIE01, @leadership_THANDI_WILLIE02, @leadership_Thandi_Wille and @DIRECTOR_TOBIE_LOCHNER, and appear to be attempting to mislead the public by fraudulently linking themselves to Financial Services Provider (FSP) number 51205, which is registered to Cuthman Capital. The firm confirmed it has no association with the individuals, who did not respond to FSCA enquiries and are not licensed or authorised to provide financial services or products in South Africa. The FSCA reiterated that financial services providers must be authorised under applicable legislation and advised the public to verify authorisation status (including matching an individual’s ID number to FSCA records), the category of advice the person is registered to provide, and that the FSP number matches the provider name on the FSCA database, using the FSCA’s toll-free line or its online register searches.
