The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) reported on Governor Anca Dragu’s working visit to the National Bank of Romania, the first interinstitutional meeting following Moldova’s acceptance into the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), and framed it as the start of an expanded dialogue on adapting Moldova’s banking sector and payments infrastructure to the European framework. Discussions focused on lessons from Romania’s SEPA integration and the transfer of best practices for aligning payments infrastructure with European standards. The agenda covered Romania’s post-SEPA regulatory and supervisory approaches, technical solutions for integrating instant payments and advancing financial-sector digitalisation, and practical experience in managing the relationship between commercial banks and the SEPA system. The NBM delegation, including First Deputy Governor Petru Rotaru and Deputy Governor Mihnea Constantinescu, also met representatives of the Romanian Banking Association. NBM noted that the positive decision admitting Moldova to SEPA was announced on 6 March 2025 during an NBM delegation visit to Brussels led by Governor Dragu.
