Bank Indonesia and Indonesia's Financial Services Authority (OJK) launched the BI-OJK Hackathon 2025, a public competition intended to generate new digital financial services and solutions under the theme “Empowering the Future: Innovating Digital Services and Financial Solutions for Inclusive Growth and Resilient Economy”. The programme is open to professionals and students, with registration running from 5 June to 11 July 2025. Hackathon 2025 will focus on three subthemes: AI as a Service (AIaaS) for digital-delivered service export, innovation in finance and public services, and risk management and consumer protection. The format includes matchmaking sessions designed to connect innovators with regulators, service users and communities so proposed solutions address practical needs. The hackathon is positioned as the opening event in the run-up to the Festival Ekonomi dan Keuangan Digital and Indonesia Fintech Summit & Expo 2025, scheduled for 24–26 September 2025. In the same release, Bank Indonesia referenced recent payment-system developments including QRIS adoption (more than 56 million users and 38 million merchants) and cross-border QRIS links, with connection to Japan planned from 17 August 2025 and pilots to follow for China and Saudi Arabia.
