Ireland's Department of Finance outlined the agenda for a two-day meeting of EU economy and finance ministers, where Deputy Prime Minister Simon Harris will chair negotiations under Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union and seek agreement on the Market Integration and Supervision Package. The package is intended to remove barriers to cross-border investment, improve the efficiency and competitiveness of EU capital markets and channel European savings into European businesses as part of the Savings and Investments Union. Ministers will also provide guidance to the European Commission on priorities for its 2027 banking reform proposals, following an earlier discussion of the competitiveness of the EU banking sector. The Council will discuss windfall taxation of energy company profits at the request of six member states, adopt an updated EU list of non-cooperative jurisdictions for tax purposes and consider fiscal, climate finance and economic governance matters.
